Opaline Gourami (Trichopodus trichopterus) Tank Bred

For the safety of our animals, we now ship live fish exclusively via UPS Next Day Air. If your order contains this item, you will only see UPS Next Day Air as a shipping option during checkout.

The Opaline Gourami is a striking and durable variant of the classic Three-Spot Gourami, prized for its marbled blue and silvery patterning that shimmers as it moves. With long, trailing pelvic fins and intelligent, curious behavior, this labyrinth fish makes a peaceful yet commanding centerpiece for community and planted tanks. Tank-bred and very adaptable, the Opaline Gourami is a favorite among both beginner and experienced aquarists.

What We Love About This Fish:

• Bold Patterning: Unique opalescent blue-and-silver marbling.
Graceful Movement: Long pelvic fins sway like whiskers as they explore.
Labyrinth Breather: Can breathe air at the surface, allowing for lower-oxygen environments.
Hardy and Community-Friendly: A great choice for most peaceful aquariums.

Natural Habitat:

Originally found in Southeast Asia, Three-Spot Gouramis inhabit slow-moving, warm waters with dense plant growth—such as rice paddies, swamps, and still streams. Their natural environment is rich in vegetation and surface cover.

Aquascaping:

• Plants: Use Amazon Swords, Java Fern, Water Sprite, or Floating Plants like Duckweed or Frogbit.
Hardscape: Include driftwood and rockwork to provide shelter and reduce stress.
Botanicals: Indian Almond Leaves or softwood bark can release tannins and create a more natural environment.

Diet and Feeding:

Omnivorous and undemanding, Opaline Gouramis will readily accept flakes, pellets, and frozen foods. Include a mix of protein and plant-based options for optimal health.
We recommend Ultra Royal Guppy Mignon Pellets – Shrimp Delight Formula, a small, soft pellet made with real shrimp and plant ingredients that promotes vibrant color, energy, and growth.

Tank Mates and Compatibility:

Best suited to peaceful community tanks. Good tank mates include rasboras, Corydoras, livebearers, small barbs, and non-aggressive tetras. Avoid long-finned or aggressive fish, and consider only one male per tank unless space is abundant.

Shrimp Safe:

May be safe with adult shrimp in a heavily planted aquarium. Caution advised with shrimp fry or smaller ornamental shrimp.

Breeding:

A bubble-nesting species. Males will construct nests at the water's surface and protect the eggs after spawning. Provide floating plants and calm water conditions for successful breeding.

Recommended Tank Parameters:

• Temperature: 74° - 82° F (23° - 28° C)
• pH: 6.5 – 7.5
• KH: 4 – 12
• Minimum Tank Size: 20 gallons

Care Guidelines:

• Diet: Omnivorous; enjoys a mix of flakes, pellets, and frozen/live foods.
