Lavender Gourami (Trichopodus trichopterus) Tank Bred

For the safety of our animals, we now ship live fish exclusively via UPS Next Day Air. If your order contains this item, you will only see UPS Next Day Air as a shipping option during checkout.

The Lavender Gourami is a beautifully soft-colored variant of the classic Three-Spot Gourami, showcasing an elegant blend of pastel purple, blue, and silver tones. This peaceful labyrinth fish is admired for its calm demeanor, striking coloration, and signature trailing pelvic fins that sway as it glides through the water. Tank-bred and hardy, the Lavender Gourami adapts well to a wide range of water conditions and makes an ideal centerpiece for peaceful community aquariums.

What We Love About This Fish:

• Unique Coloration: Gentle lavender hues with shimmering undertones.
Elegant Swimming Style: Long, thread-like pelvic fins used for sensory exploration.
Peaceful and Intelligent: Ideal for planted and calm community tanks.
Hardy and Adaptable: Tank-bred and easy to care for.

Natural Habitat:

The wild ancestors of this species hail from slow-moving rivers, marshes, and swamps throughout Southeast Asia, where they inhabit warm, still waters densely populated with aquatic plants.

Aquascaping:

• Plants: Ideal tankmates include Water Wisteria, Anubias, Amazon Sword, and Floating Plants like Salvinia or Frogbit to provide cover and diffuse lighting.
Hardscape: Use driftwood and smooth rocks to create shaded retreats.
Botanicals: Add Indian Almond Leaves or Catappa Bark to simulate tannin-rich natural environments and reduce stress.

We recommend our Botanical Combo Pack, which has a mixture of the most popular botanicals for Gourami.

Diet and Feeding:

Lavender Gouramis are omnivorous and enjoy a varied diet. Offer high-quality flake or pellet food, along with frozen or live options such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia.
We recommend Ultra Fresh Royal Mignon Pellets – Shrimp Delight Formula, a small, soft pellet made with real shrimp that enhances color, appetite, and health—perfectly sized for gouramis.

Tank Mates and Compatibility:

This species does well with other peaceful fish such as rasboras, small barbs, tetras, Corydoras, and livebearers. Avoid fin-nipping species and other aggressive gouramis. Males may be territorial with one another in smaller setups.

Shrimp Safe:

May coexist with adult shrimp in a heavily planted tank. Some risk to shrimp fry. Provide plenty of cover if keeping with ornamental shrimp species.

Breeding:

Bubble-nester species. Males build nests at the surface and guard the eggs. Breeding should be done in a dedicated tank, with calm surface water and floating plants to support nest building.

Recommended Tank Parameters:

• Temperature: 75° - 82° F (24° - 28° C)
• pH: 6.5 – 7.5

• Minimum Tank Size: 20 gallons

Care Guidelines:
