The Gold Angelfish is a stunning, selectively bred variant of the ever-popular freshwater angelfish. With its soft metallic gold coloration, graceful fins, and tall body shape, this elegant cichlid makes a peaceful yet commanding presence in any planted or community aquarium. This variety is especially striking under bright aquarium lighting, where its subtle shimmer truly stands out.

These specimens are responsibly bred in the U.S.A., not imported, making them exceptionally hardy and well-adapted to aquarium conditions.

What We Love About This Fish:

Golden Hue: Beautiful, pale gold body with reflective tones that intensify with age and good care
Graceful Movement: Long flowing fins and slow, deliberate swimming style
U.S.A. Bred & Adaptable: Raised domestically for excellent health and compatibility with tank life
Social but Peaceful: Can be kept in groups or pairs, and generally peaceful with most tankmates

Natural Habitat:

Descended from wild angelfish native to the Amazon Basin. In the wild, these fish inhabit calm, slow-moving waters with dense vegetation and submerged driftwood or roots.

Aquascaping:

Gold Angelfish thrive in tall, vertically oriented tanks with natural decor. We recommend:

  • Plants: Tall background plants like Amazon Swords, Vallisneria, and floating plants like Frogbit for shade and comfort

  • Hardscape: Driftwood, vertical rocks, and branchy wood structures for swimming lanes

  • Botanicals: Add our Aquatic Arts Botanical Combo Pack or the AquaZen Botanical Zen Pack to naturally enrich the environment, promote biofilm, and help condition the water with beneficial tannins

Diet and Feeding:

These angelfish are eager eaters and benefit from a varied omnivorous diet. Offer:

  • Ultra Fresh Tropical Micro Pellets – Shrimp Delight Formula for daily nutrition and optimal coloration

  • Occasional live or frozen foods like brine shrimp or bloodworms

  • Spirulina flakes or veggie-based options to round out their diet

Tank Mates and Compatibility:

Gold Angelfish do well in peaceful community tanks and make excellent centerpiece fish. Good tank mates include:

  • Corydoras

  • Larger tetras (like Rummy Nose, Black Skirt, and Lemon Tetras)

  • Dwarf Gouramis

  • Peaceful barbs and non-aggressive dwarf cichlids

Avoid aggressive or fin-nipping fish.

Shrimp Safe:

Gold Angelfish may eat small or baby shrimp. Larger adult shrimp can sometimes coexist in heavily planted tanks with plenty of cover.

Breeding:

Mature pairs will lay eggs on vertical surfaces such as broad leaves or slate. They may guard the eggs and fry, but a separate breeding setup is recommended for successful rearing.

Recommended Tank Parameters:
