Inspiration Behind the Design:

The Día de los Plecos artwork is inspired by Mexico’s Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), a joyful remembrance of loved ones and the cycles of life. DJ wanted to honor that same spirit of appreciation and connection through the lens of the aquarium hobby, celebrating the creatures that bring us peace and beauty every day.

The skull-style Pleco features ornate floral and fin patterns inspired by traditional calaveras de azúcar (sugar skulls), blending bold lines and flowing textures that mirror the movement of a Pleco gliding across driftwood. The design captures the heart of what Día de los Muertos represents: remembering, cherishing, and celebrating life in every form.

In DJ’s words:

“I wanted this piece to feel alive, like a celebration of everything we love about keeping aquariums. Día de los Muertos is about remembering what brings us joy.”
